Familia Macias & Rodriguez
Rosario Macias recalls that after many years of following the
“corrida,” her parents brought all the children and settled in Oasis,
a colonia in the southeastern desert of Coachella Valley, in 1989. In the Rodriquez
family, it was the grandfather, an uncle, and his father, who first came to California
and settled in Coachella Valley in 1979, in 100 Palms. Today, Jesus, Rosario and
son, Angel, live in North Shore, where they frequently visit their parents and
relatives, who also live in the colonia of North Shore, adjacent to the Salton
Sea. Jesus and Rosario no longer work in the fields. Jesus works for a desert
sign company as an installer and Rosario is employed as a resource center coordinator
for the Desert Communities Empowerment Zone in Thermal.
